OUR MONTESSORI PROGRAMS

How are we different from a daycare?

In a Montessori Classroom you will see what we call a "Prepared Environment." Everything in the classroom is designed to meet the child's needs. The shelves are low to the floor, the work is child size, and attractive. But more importantly, we have Practical Life Exercises. These exercises teach our children lifelong skills. They learn how to dress themselves, care for their environment, and so much more.

What is the role of a Montessori Teacher?

Our teachers are sometimes called a "Directress" rather than an "instructor." In traditional schools we often see teachers instructing an entire class. This creates a "one size fits all" model. In a Montessori Classroom we work with children at an individual level. We understand their needs and interests are different from their peers. As our teachers tend to each child individually they help strengthen their fine and gross motor skills. As Dr. Montessori would say, "The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, 'The children are now working as if I did not exist.'

How does a Montessori School help promote social skills?

Dr. Montessori firmly believed in teaching within large age groups. As children transition from one program to another they interact with older children. Older children become role models for younger children. By helping their peers, children learn empathy and collaboration skills that will stay with them as grow.
